Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 11 months AGO
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday released the names of the deputies involved in last week's chase that started in Coeur d'Alene and resulted in a fatal shooting in Spokane Valley.
The six Spokane County deputies who fired their guns were Brett Hubbell, Jeff Thurman, Dale Moyer, Ryan Walter, Brian Hirzel and Randy Watts.
The number of shots fired is being investigated by the multi-agency Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR). The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office said Jedadiah Zillmer, 23, died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Thurman, Moyer and Hirzel previously worked for the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.
Moyer, a former law enforcement instructor at North Idaho College, received a Life Saving Award for helping a suicidal female in Kootenai County. He has been at the SCSO for seven years, while Hirzel has been with the agency for five years and Thurman 12.
Zillmer was holding one gun at the time of the shooting, according to the SIRR. Two additional weapons were located on him. He was wearing a ballistic-style vest.
Several weapons were visible within his vehicle, according to the SIRR.
Zillmer was a veteran and 2008 graduate of Lewis and Clark High in Spokane. Law enforcement officials said he earned a Purple Heart after he was shot in the foot in Afghanistan in 2011. He was attending Spokane Falls Community College.
Prior to the chase, Zillmer called 911 and indicated he was suicidal, had weapons and wanted law enforcement to kill him, according to the SIRR.
