Fraud prevention workshop March 5

The Hayden Chamber of Commerce will host "Protecting Your Business or Organization from Fraud," a workshop about fraud prevention featuring a panel of local experts.

The chamber "Lunch and Learn" event takes place Wednesday, March 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1765 W. Golf Course Road, Coeur d'Alene.

The cost is $12 for Hayden chamber members and $15 for non-members with lunch included.

A panel of local experts will share firsthand experience and knowledge about preventing fraud.

* Troy Tymesen, city of Coeur d'Alene finance director, will open the event by sharing information about a former employee theft incident.

* Ginny Tate, a forensic accountant with Elk Point Consulting, will give an overview of fraud, the need for separation of duties, the difference between an audit and a forensic examination, and the profile and characteristics of a fraudster.

* Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh will speak about what supervisors and owners should do once they suspect someone.

* Joy Rogers, senior vice president of Electronic Banking Services at Mountain West Bank, will provide an overview of best banking practices.

"We hope to provide businesses and organizations with information they can use to be proactive in their operations," said Hayden Chamber President Nancy Lowery. "Our role as a chamber is to support our businesses so that they can be successful."
