POST FALLS - It's about time to pedal for emergency responders and their families in need.

The sixth annual 24-hour indoor bike relay hosted by Peak Health and Wellness Center kicks off Friday at 10 a.m. at 927 E. Polston Ave. in Post Falls.

The 'Guns & Hoses' fundraiser will benefit the nonprofit Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation.

Teams and individual riders are being sought. There is not a specified entry fee. Most teams raise between $300 to $500.

"We don't turn anyone away," said Heath Wiltse, Peak general manager. "This is not a fitness challenge or a race. The goal is to keep the bikes moving."

Last year's ride raised about $10,000. The event has attracted as many as 350 riders in recent years.

There will be events each hour during the 24-hour period.

Activities include a silent auction, kids' events, a scavenger hunt, movies, a police demonstration, dog show and more.

"We want to keep people motivated and interested in this 24-hour event," said Shannon Carlino, Peak's group fitness director.

Registration for the dog show, which starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, is $10. Funds from the show benefit dog programs of first responders. Those riding during that time will serve as the judges.

The foundation, in its ninth year, has awarded more than $14,000 in grants to emergency responders in need.
