Photo booths emerging as new wedding staple

MOSES LAKE- For a long time, photo booths were typically only found in shopping malls, arcades or amusement parks.
But over the past couple of years, the fun of squeezing into a photo booth with your friends, making a few silly faces and waiting for a strip of prints to come out has been replicated at weddings, birthday parties and other events across the country.
Keiran Marquette, owner of Sincerely Happy Photography, said she first noticed photo booths popping up at special events a few years ago. Since then, they've only grown in popularity - not only around the country, but in the Columbia Basin as well, she said.
"It's definitely picking up because it's something you can give your guests as entertainment, and the photos are a fun party favor," said Marquette.
She said she expanded her Cle Elum business to include photo booth rentals about two years ago, after noticing a lack of photo booth companies in Central Washington.
"I wanted to provide something fun for brides out here, another easy option for them for their guests' entertainment," said Marquette. "When I got married we didn't have any photo booths nearby and looking back, that's something I really wish I could've had."
She said wedding photo booths are becoming more popular as the years go by because more and more people are learning about them.
"People still don't really think about having a photo booth when they sit down to plan their wedding," said Marquette. "But when they see it at a wedding show or at an actual wedding, then they want one."
Couples are also finding out about photo booths on social media sites like Pinterest, she said. In fact, there are hundreds of photo booth theme, prop and background ideas on Pinterest, said Marquette.
"It's becoming more of a thing where if couples have the extra money, it's something they definitely want to have," she said. "It makes your wedding more fun and unique."
Sincerely Happy Photography is one of more than 50 vendors that will be at this weekend's Columbia Basin Bridal Expo. The annual wedding show takes place at Big Bend Community College's ATEC building from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Close to 200 brides attended last year's event, according to organizers.
Marquette said she is excited to be at the bridal expo this year. She'll be bringing along her photo booth so attendees can get a first-hand look at how it works.
The photo booth will be up and running during the expo, she said. Marquette said people are welcome to take photos in the booth and actually will be able to keep their complimentary photos as a way to remember the bridal expo.
Marquette said she'll also have information on pricing and can even help couples book service dates at the show.
As a special promotion, any couple that books the company's Supreme Service package during the show will receive an extra hour of service for free.
The supreme package includes a four-hour session, full-time assistant, a picture DVD, scrapbook album and party props. Other packages range between a one and a half-hour session and a three hour session.
Packages start at $250 and go up to about $800, said Marquette.
She said she wanted to be able to meet different price points to make sure having a photo booth was feasible for almost every bride.
"The photo booth really makes your wedding more unique and fun," said Marquette. "The pictures are a really fun party favor for your guests and a unique memory for you."
