Lumberjacks fall to Maniacs to open District 1-2 tournament

TROY - Kalob Turner scored 11 points for the third-seeded Orofino Maniacs, which used a 12-5 run midway through the third quarter to pull away to beat the second-seeded St. Maries Lumberjacks 37-31 in the opening round of the 2A District 1-2 tournament on Wednesday at Troy High.

"We tied it at 14," St. Maries coach John Bisson said. "We just went into a shooting drought and they hit some key baskets in the paint and were very disciplined. It was catchup from that point on."

Jacob Greer scored eight points, Logan Feasline had six points and nine rebounds and Dillon Michael had six points and three steals for St. Maries (8-12), which faces Coeur d'Alene Charter on Monday in a loser-out game at a site to be determined.

Scotty Lee scored 12 points for Orofino (11-6), which faces Grangeville in a semifinal game on Monday in Troy.

TROY - Christian Johnson scored 20 points for the fourth-seeded Panthers, which lost in their tournament opener to the Bulldogs at Troy High.

Grangeville led 13-8 after the first quarter, but outscored Coeur d'Alene Charter 21-3 in the second quarter to blow the game open.

Chris Adams scored nine points for Coeur d'Alene Charter (1-19), which faces St. Maries in a loser-out game on Monday.

Josh Dame scored 16 points for Grangeville (17-4), which faces Orofino in a semifinal game on Monday in Troy.
