The Whitefish Theatre Company presents “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” opening with a sneak preview night on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Performances continue Feb. 28 and March 1, 7, and 8 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are March 2 and 9 at 4 p.m.
“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” written by C.S. Lewis in 1950, is a timeless tale that has been a favorite of children and adults for decades. The play, condensed by award-winning playwright Joseph Robinette, brings all of the magic and majesty of Lewis' Narnia to the stage. The adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia are faithfully recreated, along with the benevolence and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, and his struggle with the White Witch.
The memorable episodes from the story are represented in this exciting dramatization: the temptation of Edmund by the witch, the slaying of the evil wolf by Peter, the guidance of Aslan as the children are crowned the four new rulers of Narnia, and more. The supporting characters are also here: the unicorn, the centaur and other forest animals, along with Father Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and Tumnus the Faun.
Whitefish Theatre Company has 28 students in the cast from many areas of the Flathead Valley. Director Rebecca Spear is back with Whitefish Theatre Company for this show after directing last season's “Seussical” and “Charlotte's Web.”
“We've had a wonderful time bringing this enchanting theatrical adaptation to life on the stage,” Spear said. “Whether you are revisiting this inspiring tale or experiencing it for the first time, we hope you enjoy this exciting journey of nobility and courage."
The sneak preview on Feb. 27 is $10 with general seating and tickets available only at the door. Tickets for other performances are $15 for adults and $8 for students with reserved seating.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office at 1 Central Ave. in Whitefish or by calling 862-5371. Box Office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and one hour before a performance. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org.
