When things are quiet, Ryggs Johnston can sink a shot. Also an accomplished gofler, the 13-year-old won his second state title at the 42nd Annual Elks Hoop Shoot on Feb. 1. Johnston did his best Steve Nash impression, draining 24 of his 25 attempts from the charity stripe.

Johnston will travel to Rapid City, S.D. to compete in the regional tournament on March 8.

Johnston finished second in the national free-throw competition as an 11-year-old.

More than 4,000 kids competed in this year’s Hoop Shoot.

Should Johnston win this year’s tournament, his name would be engraved on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Ill.
