Lunch and dinner with a bistro emphasis will be available at The Fork at Lakeside. This restaurant will open in a few weeks at 309 Lakeside Ave. in the space that formerly housed the Lemongrass and Takara eateries.

Posted on the door out front, the menu includes appetizers, steaks, ribeyes, several fish and seafood items, sandwiches, soups, salads and kids' specialties. The entrees are the spin of owner William Scott, who has 15 years in the restaurant industry in Idaho, Washington and California. He's originally from Detroit and was with the Army in Tacoma. Originally from Spokane and North Idaho, Monica Scott was manager and sushi chef for her mother's Momiji Japanese Red Maple restaurant in Post Falls and was also with other area restaurants.

Now they're doing their own thing with about 10 employees. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 4:30 until closing for dinner and closed Sundays. Check "forklakeside" on Facebook.

Hayden Exchange opens March 1

Participating Parent-Teacher Organizations and their schools will benefit from sales at The Hayden Exchange. This thrift store, similar to the one on Fourth Street in Coeur d'Alene, will open March 1 at 9426 Government Way (next to the Senior Center).

Portions of the store's profits will go to the schools that help bring in items for the store(s) to sell. Ten schools participate in the Cd'A store and earned $35,000 in the two years it has been open, according to Debbie Thompson, owner with her husband Steve.

With an emphasis on collectibles, hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Donations are accepted immediately. Phone 818-4242.

Aslin Finch now Country Store

Although the store and its products and services remain basically unchanged, the Aslin Finch stores in the Northwest have changed their ownership and name to Country Store.

Aslin Finch and its wholesale division of AFCO Distributon & Milling were sold to Skagit Farmers Supply of Burlington, Wash. The change involved 13 Country Store locations in the Northwest selling feed, pet supplies and farm and ranch supplies.

How to care for baby chicks and chickens will be one of the newly named store's first activities with a Chick 101 class at 6 p.m. March 13.

Originally Feed & Farm, the Cd'A store is at 6265 Government Way. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 to 5 Saturdays. Phone 772-2715. Check www.countrystore.net.

Now for the Tidbits

- Next week: Details on the Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers store planning to open March 4 at 222 W. Neider Ave. and Tara's Pizza with Paul Bunyan's new store in Rathdrum.

- Sales begin this week for Office Depot, which is closing its store May 3 at 131 W. Neider Ave. because of its merger with Office Max. Until then hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Phone 676-0846.

- Dale's Cars has expanded from its 1818 N. Fourth St. location to a large parcel south of Spruce Avenue between Third and Fourth. The 40-year-old company started in Kellogg and came to Cd'A 12 years ago. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 667-4563. Check www.dalescars.com.

- Nearby is the new Brandon's Autos at Third and Spruce. Check www.brandonsauto.com.

- Evidently the new One Lakeside condo building would be 14 stories with a commercial first floor.

- The fellow whose whole left side was cut off is all right now.

- From a church bulletin: "Ladies, get rid of the things you don't need around the house at our rummage sale. Bring your husbands."

- Keep times simple in writing. It's just 5 p.m. with no 0's (5:00) needed. Notice the p.m. is lower case with no spaces. Use "noon" and "midnight" because readers are never sure what 12 p.m. and 12 a.m. are.
