EPHRATA - Court documents released after the shooting death of Moses Lake teen Brandon Mende, show the suspect, Michael Meier, was upset that Mende had slept with his girlfriend and called him a "scrap."

Documents also show Meier, 17, ordered five of his fellow gang members to help cover up the crime.

The documents released do not indicate if Meier or the gang he is affiliated with was behind the Jan. 20 shooting of Mende, 16.

On Feb. 15, Meier called his friends to come to a party on Turnkey Road later that night. He said he was at the party the previous night and there were too many members of another gang present.

When his friends arrived he showed them a pistol on his hip and said he was going to "pop Little Woody," which is slang for shoot Mende.

When Mende walked outside with a girl, Meier rounded up his friends and told them to get ready. When the girl came back inside, upset and without Mende, all six boys walked outside. At least one boy reported hearing gun shots and saw Mende fall to the ground. After the shooting, they ran to a purple mini-van belonging to Meier's mom and fled the scene. All of the boys who were present and willing to talk to police said Meier told them that he shot Mende. None of the witnesses reported actually seeing Meier shoot him.

After they left the party, Meier, who was in the front passenger seat told the driver to hurry up because he had to ditch the gun. After fumbling with the pistol and dropping the magazine in the floorboard, Meier threw the gun out of the vehicle. He then found the magazine and threw it out the window.

Police later recovered the magazine and pistol near where witnesses said Meier threw it.

Meier then demanded two witnesses confess to shooting Mende, and tell law enforcement it was self-defense. He was the leader of a local gang chapter, and if they did not do what he said they would be "jumped" (beaten for 52 seconds).

One witness said that Meier told him he would confess to the crime for Meier if he was a true homie.
