The Big Mountain Ski Patrol Inc. at Whitefish Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the 2014 recipients of their Community Scholarship Program.

Cole Maxwell attended the January Level 1 Avalanche course through the youth scholarship; Kelsey Bauer will attend the February Level 1 Avalanche course and Adam Hannigan will attend  the Level II Avalanche course sponsored by the Big Mountain Ski Patrol Inc. Additionally, Jamie Dawson will attend a Wilderness First Responder class sponsored by Aerie Backcountry Medicine.

These scholarship awards total $1,175. These funds are generated through the sale of T-shirts, tax deductible donations, a raffle and an annual  spring fundraising event. This year the event will be held on March 10 at the Bierstube.

Big Mountain Ski Patrol Inc. is a nonprofit organization operated by members of the ski patrol at Whitefish Mountain Resort. It was founded to provide educational opportunities for community members interested in furthering their first-aid and avalanche education. Both avalanche courses are run by the Big Mountain Ski Patrol.

Are you interested in supporting your local community? Tax deductible donations can be made at bigmountainskipatrol.org.

Endangered rivers

Calling the Flathead Valley home for 15 years has been a privilege. Owning a cabin on the North Fork is an even greater one. We live in a region that provides us with a myriad of outdoor recreational experiences that we all love. Our communities are safe. Neighbors are friendly. My car keys are usually in the ignition. We enjoy more than our fair share of the world’s clean water, air and wildlife.
