MOSES LAKE - After stumbling early in Columbia Basin Big 9 play, Moses Lake girls basketball notched two non-league wins against Pasco and Kamiakin.

The Chiefs defeated the Bulldogs 57-47 on the road Saturday before returning home to face Kamiakin on Monday. Moses Lake started its latest winning streak after handling the Braves 60-44.

Head coach Matt Strophy's team improved to 6-3 overall and remained 2-2 in the Big 9. Strophy was encouraged by the two wins, but cautions that his team needs to continue this high level of play to have a shot at climbing back up the Big 9 standings.

"Now we've got to do it on a consistent basis," he said.

Strophy used the break from the league schedule to make some adjustments to Moses Lake's game plan and emphasize boxing out on rebounds.

"I think that's a real big thing in our schedule and we used it to our advantage," he said.

The Chiefs now have four out of their next five games at home, including three straight before a rematch with Davis in Yakima. Strophy believes continuing the team's winning streak up until the second meeting with the Pirates will be crucial.

"Hopefully they get focused and remain focused throughout the course of the game," he said.
