Dog debacle breaks out in Bigfork

A dog debacle was reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after a man was walking his small dog at the trailhead of a nature walk near Grand Drive in Bigfork when two men walking a golden retriever, not on a leash, passed by. The larger dog then attacked the man’s dog, also causing the man to fall on the ground and scratch his face.

A quintet of troublemaking youths got themselves stuck while playing with an elevator on Big Mountain Road. A representative from the security company requested charges be pressed for damages to the elevator but was told it is a civil matter.

A man was reported to police by his girlfriend after they got into a fight on Lakeview Drive in Lakeside and he punched her in the chest three times. She reported he had taken 15 stolen clonazepam pills and three days’ worth of methadone.

A Tahoe Drive man contacted deputies after discovering his common-law wife was pulling all the money out of their joint bank account, saying she wanted all of it for child support since they were getting a divorce.

A passerby reported someone was on a snowmobile in a Three Mile Drive field leaving tracks. Someone had recently planted crops in the field and the caller was concerned that the snowmobiler might be ruining them.

A deputy gave a drunken woman a ride to a U.S. 2 East bar in Martin City at her request after she was reported as lying in the snow, yelling, along the highway in Hungry Horse.

A man was arrested and jailed after a fight at a U.S. 2 West property in Kila. The man had reportedly become upset and started pushing a woman around after she refused to give him money for drugs.

A concerned citizen waved down a deputy after coming across an injured great horned owl. The owl was taken to a bird lady for rehabilitation.

A husband in a huff called deputies after one of his son’s friends repeatedly called and harassed his wife.

The kitchen staff of a South Main Street restaurant were threatened.

Someone set a Dumpster ablaze on Tetrault Road.


A call was made to the Kalispell Police Department after an incoherent man fell on the ice outside an Airport Road bar. All the bleeding man wanted was for the caller to buy him a pint. One of the bartenders found a ride home for the man, who was told where his keys had been left by the caller.

An officer was forced to break open the rear wing window on a vehicle on Third Avenue East North at the owner’s request after a 1-year-old child was locked inside. The necessity arose from a mechanical malfunction, by which the doors would not open even with the locks up.

An annoyed man never showed up at the police department after calling to say he wanted to report criminal mischief, trespassing, threats and harassment on South Woodland Drive.

A man either very drunk or on drugs was reported wandering down the third-floor hallway of a U.S. 93 South property, trying to open doors and mumbling to himself.

A pair of wild women — one in a vest and blue jeans and one in pajamas — were reported fighting on Third Avenue East North.

A repentant boyfriend agreed to send a check to his girlfriend to pay for repairs after he broke into her garage, kicking the door in, to get his belongings.

A frightened Eighth Avenue West woman reported someone tried to jiggle her doorknob while she was home alone.

Officers were unable to locate a man reported stumbling around in the middle of Fourth Avenue West.

A woman in a big coat ran away after being seen looking through vehicle windows on Liberty Street.

A window was shot out of a building on Seventh Avenue West.

Fireworks were reported in the area of Second Avenue East.


A perturbed parent contacted the Whitefish Police Department after a daughter was inappropriately touched at a Central Avenue bar. The bar reportedly would not help the parent by reviewing its surveillance video to find the toucher.

A curious citizen called to ask if it was against the law to park with tires on the grass median on Central Avenue.


A Columbia Falls Police officer responded to a Ninth Street West home after a man reported there was a vehicle stuck in his neighbor’s yard, the result of a drunken man trying to cut across to miss a traffic light.

The man drove through both yards, got stuck and possibly hit the caller’s water line. The motorist also stole the man’s shovel to try to dig his vehicle out of the snow. The motorist arrived back on scene on foot after the officer arrived, and got a ride home from a friend due to being too drunk to drive. He said he would come back in the morning for his vehicle.

An officer responded to a house after the owners were told in no uncertain terms that the man — who works with their child — was “packing,” although he left the gun in his vehicle. The parents asked police to remove the man from their home.

An officer counseled a Martha Road son and his drunken mother after they got into an argument.

Fireworks were reported in the area of Railroad Street.


Lake County Sheriff’s deputies made a trio of arrests over the transition into the new year, arresting a drunken driver during a traffic stop on U.S. 93 and another person for partner or family member assault on First Avenue West, both near Polson, as well as a third person on a warrant.
