COEUR d'ALENE - It was a banner year for the Hangover Handicap, a New Year's Day tradition in the Lake City.

The 37th annual 5-mile run, a benefit for Tesh, Inc., attracted a record 580 participants on Wednesday.

"We really enjoy offering this opportunity for the community to start each year out with a healthy activity," said Tesh CEO Russ Doumas.

The course runs along the Centennial Trail, along Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive.

Kyler Little completed the course in the shortest time among men who participated, and Page Bullard logged the best time for women.

The funds raised each year by the Hangover Handicap provide major support for Tesh.

The nonprofit offers support services - life and employment skills training, job coaching and counseling, and child development services - to Kootenai County residents with disabilities.

Doumas said the organization is deeply grateful for the community's support.

"We raised $16,000 today," Doumas said.
