Edith Campbell, 97

Edith Margaret Campbell, age 97, a resident of Coeur d’Alene for 73 years, went to the loving arms of Jesus at Hospice House on December 30, 2013.
Born September 2, 1916 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Hans and Katharine (Nebe) Hulbe, she grew up in Boise, Idaho attending public schools and graduating from Boise High School in 1934. After graduating from Whitman College at Walla Walla, Washington in 1938, she moved to Spokane, Washington and was employed by Washington Water Power Co. (Avista Corp.). She met “Johnny” Campbell at a St. Patrick’s Day dance. They were married in Boise, December 16, 1940 and settled in Coeur d’Alene where they raised their three children.
Edith was the children’s librarian and story lady at Coeur d’Alene Public Library. She returned to college at Eastern Washington College graduating with a B.A. in elementary education. She taught at Central and Bryan elementary schools until she retired in 1979. Her husband, John, died in 1992.
Edith is survived by daughters, Joan (Gary) Ramsey of Newman Lake, WA and Marilyn (Terry) Harwood of Athol, ID; a son, Gordon (Connie) Campbell of Newman Lake, WA; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a niece, Ruth Maynard.
The visitation will be Friday evening, January 10th from 5-7 p.m. at the Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. You are invited to a celebration of her life at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Coeur d’Alene Bible Church, 5350 N. 4th St., Coeur d’Alene with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements.
