Dozens of local businesses - restaurants, spas, shops and service providers - will be at the Best of North Idaho Expo today from 4-8 p.m. at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, and the public is invited to come get to know them.
The vendors are all vying for the top spots in the 2014 Best of North Idaho awards. Official voting for the annual Press reader-selected honors begins today and ends Jan. 31.
"It's a fun way to get to know the businesses. You can meet the people, and talk to them," said event planner Jennifer Alexander.
The Expo features free food, live entertainment, giveaways and prizes. Admission and parking are free.
There will be an Italian soda bar. Coffee and espresso drinks will be available.
The businesses competing for readers' votes will be displaying their wares, offering samples and making their pitches.
"Some will be trying to hold onto their titles, and others are hoping to sweep the lead," Alexander said.
Readers are asked to vote for their favorite businesses in 80 categories.
Expo attendees will be able to cast their votes for each category during the event.
"It's the only place where paper ballots will be offered," Alexander said.
After the show, all voting must be done online through the Coeur d'Alene Press website, www.cdapress.com.
The results will be published in March, in the Best of 2014 Guide, an at-a-glance list of the best places to go.
