The Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation is hosting two weekends of youth ski races this month at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
The first event scheduled for Jan. 10 - 12 will be for skiers 6 to 13 years old. The races are part of the USSA Northern Division Youth Ski League series.
The second event scheduled for Jan. 17 - 19 will be for skiers 14 to 21 years old. These races are part of the nationwide USSA series and will be qualifying races for the USSA Western Regional Junior Championships to be held at Jackson Hole, Wyo. in March.
The Northern Division includes all of Montana and parts of Wyoming and South Dakota. Competitors for these events will be coming from ski clubs from throughout Montana including Anaconda, Big Sky, Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Helena and Missoula as well as the Flathead Valley. There will be several Canadian competitors travelling to these events as well.
All races will be run on Ed’s Run and can be easily viewed from the base area.
Volunteers are needed for a number of on-hill as well as administrative duties during the upcoming races. All volunteers will receive a lift ticket if needed for race course access, as well as a complementary lift pass that can be used anytime later this season.
