EPHRATA - Prosecutors filed adult charges Monday against the Moses Lake teen accused of shooting his parents last March.

Nathon Brooks, 15, faces two counts of first-degree attempted murder as well as a count of unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree in Grant County Superior Court, according to court officials.

He was originally charged with two counts of attempted murder in juvenile court, according to a previous Columbia Basin Herald article.

Prosecutors began the process of filing adult charges against Brooks last week after visiting Douglas County Superior Court Judge John Hotchkiss ruled the boy could be tried as an adult.

Brooks allegedly took a .22 caliber pistol out of a locked gun case, loaded it and waited around 90 minutes before deciding to shoot his parents.

At the time, he reportedly told police his parents grounded him from video games and other electronic devices.

His parents survived the incident.

Brooks' arraignment is scheduled for today.
