ST. REGIS – The St. Regis Lady Tigers claimed a strong victory against the Noxon Lady Red Devils in their away game on Friday, December 3.

The Lady Tigers won the game with a final score of 59-21. According to Head Coach Tyler Hurley, the girls played a strong offensive game throughout, which led to a lot of points for the St. Regis girls. He said the first quarter was a good one and was pleased with the plays he saw.

“I think we ended with 29 points in that quarter,” said Hurley.

However, while the team’s offense was good, the defense struggled. The Lady Red Devils were able to push through often and the Lady Tigers gave up 10 points to Noxon in the first quarter. In the end, the girls were able to tighten the defense in the next three quarters and kept Noxon from scoring any more points.

“We kept them to 21 points, so I was pretty happy with my defense in the last quarters,” said Hurley.

Hurley was pleased with how strong the girl’s game was. After the long break, with no games and irregular practice sessions, there were some concerns over how the team would do. As everyone came back from Christmas break, the players might have been too lethargic to play well.

However, Hurley said the girls picked up where they left off and were able to get back into the game without many problems.

Senior Arianna Jones shined as the top scorer of the game with 20 points. Sophomore Pilar Cantrell-Field also played well and was just behind her with 17 points. The remainder of the points were split among the rest of the team. Hurley felt it was a big team effort and said he was able to give everyone some time on the court.

The coach was excited to play against Arlee next week. He said the Scarlet Warriors are a top pick to win the conference this year, so a game against them would be a big one. The game would also be informative.

“That’ll kind of let us know where we sit among the top teams in our conference,” said Hurley. “That will be a game that we really look forward to.”

In the days before the next game, Hurley will work with the team to improve in all aspects of the game. He said the girls could always get better at offense and defense. The practice also helps to keep the player’s minds and skills sharp.

“Every day, we’re just trying to work on everything,” said Hurley.

According to Hurley, the team would have to give special attention to improvements on defense and rebounds.

On Tuesday, January 7, the Lady Tigers played in Two Eagle River against the Lady Eagles. Information on the game was not available at the time of press.

The girl’s next games will be Friday, January 10 in Arlee at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 11, in Darby at 4:30 p.m.

Hurley was confident the games would go well. He said the Lady Tigers should come out of the week with at least two wins.
