The median mortgage payment in Flathead County is $1,395, according to recently released figures by the U.S. Census Bureau, and 64 percent of homeowners in the county have a mortgage on their home. The remainder have no mortgage.

The Census Bureau also listed several other statistics about home ownership in the county, including:

• Twenty eight percent of homes are valued from $200,000 to $299,000, and 18.8 percent are valued from $300,000 to $499,000.

• Thirty percent of households have three or more cars, and 40 percent have two cars.

• The county has 46,537 housing units. Twenty percent were built in the past 10 years, 21 percent have five rooms, and 38 percent have three bedrooms.

• Thirty seven percent of homes have a mortgage of $1,000 to $1,499.

With continued cold weather, the potential for flooding by area rivers and streams has increased, the National Weather Service warned last week.

Search suspended for missing skiers

The search in Grand Teton National Park for two men with ties in the Flathead has been suspended because of inclement weather. The men are believed to be lost in an avalanche.
