EAST WENATCHEE - The holiday break didn't affect Moses Lake girls bowling much as the team cruised to a 4-0 win over Eastmont.

The win improves the Chiefs to 4-2 in the Columbia Basin Big 9 and 8-2 overall.

The team started strong taking the first game against the Wildcats 881-726.

Head coach Billy Brice was glad the Chiefs didn't experience any hangover from the two week break. Senior Kayla Steffler led the Moses Lake attack with a team-high 214 pins in the first game, including four strikes in a row and seven total. Junior Ashleigh Hash shot 169 and was able to convert several tough spares.

"Strikes are cool, but if you get all those spares you'll shoot good numbers," Brice said."

Sophomore Kim Mulder also had a strong first game recording 192 pins with three strikes in a row.

Moses Lake started slow in the second game and Brice felt the team lost its focus and was in the process of a meltdown, however the Chiefs were able to rally and salvage an 802-608 win.

"We just got to work on our focus a little bit more," he said.

Junior Mikayla Moreno led the team with 175 pins while Hash and Steffler added 170 and 159, respectively. Senior Kayla Enriquez, who had been battling an illness before the break, recorded 158 pins in the second game.

Brice was pleased overall with the way the team played in the first two games, but felt the team could still cut down on some bad shots.

"It's not about all the good shots they throw, it's about some of the bad shots we had," he said.

Moses Lake secured the win with a 146-124 score in the first Baker game and finished off the sweep with a strong score of 192-118 in the final Baker game.

Brice was encouraged that his team got another chance to bowl at Eastmont Lanes, the likely site of the district tournament.

"We're still working hard and still moving forward," he said.

Moses Lake returns to Lake Bowl Thursday for a league match against Eisenhower at 3:30 p.m.
