Danette Mary Mitchell, 53, passed away on Jan. 6, 2014, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends “as she was taken into the arms of the Lord.”

She was born June 20, 1960, in Kalispell to Dan and Gail Mitchell. She attended school at St. Matthew’s, Evergreen and Flathead High schools.   

After high school she began work at Dr. Mike Stebbins’ orthodontics practice for many years. She moved to Phoenix in 1985, to attend SST Travel School. While the travel industry didn’t become a career, she did work many jobs in Arizona over the years.  

In 2000, she was grateful for the opportunity to help raise her nieces, Kayla and Jenna. Her daughter Abby was born in December 2002. She moved back to Kalispell in 2004 to be close to family. Danette worked at Evergreen School District in various positions until her illness required her to leave that job.

Danette will be sorely missed by all she knew and will leave an empty spot in all the lives she touched. She was very passionate about her family, friends, children, pets and spiritual life. She was available for every celebration or family function, especially during the summers at the lake, and was always willing to help when needed.  

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother and her father; and stepmother, Marian.

She is survived by her daughter, Abby; brother, Scott Mitchell, wife Tina, and children, Morghan, Melissa and Mcray; brother, Joel Mitchell, and children, Kayla, Taylor and Jenna; brother, Paul Mitchell, and wife Michelle; brother, Eric Mitchell, Jessica Mitchell and children, Willow and Joelie; stepsister, Kim Sutton, husband Bob, and children, R.C., Krystal and Maddie; stepbrother, Rob Miller and wife Debbie; as well as all her best high school girlfriends, and many close friends and extended family.  

Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory. A rosary will be said that evening at 7 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. A reception at St. Matthew’s School cafeteria will immediately follow the burial at Glacier Memorial Gardens.  

The family would like to express their deep thanks to Dr. John Ward, Dr. Lexi Tabor-Manaker, Dr. Laura Csaplar and Dr. Larissa Korde; as well as the multitude of nurses, medical professionals and staff that cared for Danette.
