Adult daycare center opens

Daycare for kids has been a successful venture for years. But what about daycare for adults? People who may have dementia or Alzheimer's usually can't be on their own. Or their caregiver/partner may have a job, even a part-time job, or they need a break.

This care is the purpose of Bennett House, an adult daycare center at 1095 E. Timber Lane, Coeur d'Alene. Up to 12 clients can be dropped off there 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.

The supervised care includes activities such as arts and crafts, music, games, gentle exercise, discussion groups, event celebrations, socialization and nutritious meals and snacks. Opening last week, the house includes a library, media room and a garden area.

"I love what we do," said Rick Bennett, owner of Bennett House with George Cunningham. He had taken care of his parents the last years of their lives. "I know how hard 24/7 care is. Once people get into an adult daycare program, they find it to their liking. It's a safe, vibrant, socially-engaging environment."

Mud Puddle offers creative activity

A ceramics studio with in-house activities, a mobile option and a gift shop are all with The Mud Puddle. The place opened last week in Suite 108 of Harbor Plaza at 610 W. Hubbard St. (at Northwest Boulevard), Coeur d'Alene.

Creating the ceramics includes many types of glazes, painting, dry-brushing and firing. It's open to individuals of all ages, classes, groups, events and field trips. Owner Summer Cosman Eddings can bring a mobile studio to people such as in assisted-living and hospice locations. The ceramic products can include lamps, carousels, cups, clocks, thermometers and toys.

The Mud Puddle also has a shop area for ceramic products made by local crafters. Originally from Ukiah, Calif., Eddings came to North Idaho College, worked for Kootenai County and has been active in ceramics for 15 years.

Opening last week, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or through classes and appointments. Phone 818-1558. Check The Mud Puddle on Facebook.

My Girls Hats also in Harbor Plaza

Around the south corner in Suite 120 of Harbor Plaza, My Girls Hats also opened last week.

The shop offers embellished crocheted and knit hats, headbands, fabric hair accessories, animal hats for kids and American doll hats. Sizes range from newborn to adult for men and women.

Owner Carla Hofstee previously sold her products at the Farmer's Market, Art on the Green and craft shows. She creates her own patterns, fills special orders and offers crochet and knit classes for adults and children.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and special times for classes. Phone 215-1950. Email mygirlshats@yahoo.com.

Exotic Sensations & Tattoos opens

Tattoos and piercings are the specialty of Glenn Meurs at Exotic Sensations & Tattoos in Suite A of River City Plaza at 2600 E. Seltice Way, Post Falls.

Originally from Colorado, Meurs came to North Idaho for the "quality of family-oriented life." He has 24 years experience in tattoos and piercings.

Now for the Tidbits

- Last week's plea for new business notices by spies really worked - almost too well. I have many leads for now and the future. Thanks!

- Watch for news on a new toy/baby store, a pizza place moving, an auto auction business, a hookah lounge, an electronic cigarette store, a chicken wings eatery, a new burger place in Rathdrum, a barbershop in Harbor Plaza and more.

- Thanks to Matt Behringer of the Inland Business Watch blog.

- Both the pamphlet and aviator are spelled "flier."

- Those who spell the Christmas character "Santa Clause" have sentence problems.

- From a church bulletin: "The sermon topic tonight is 'What is Hell?' Come early and hear the choir practice."
