Schoening leads Sandpoint past Lakeland

RATHDRUM - Madi Schoening scored 22 points to lead the Sandpoint Bulldogs past the Lakeland Hawks 49-24 in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both schools at Hawk Court on Saturday night.
Hailey Olin scored 10 points for Sandpoint (8-5), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.
"Strong rebounding at both ends of the floor, excellent passing and very solid defense carved the way," said Sandpoint coach Bill Bender, whose team saw its first action in nearly three weeks. "We were able to get solid minutes for all 12 players."
Kaidan Kelsey had six points and three blocked shots and Emily Vanderhoof scored six points for Lakeland (3-11), which travels to Moscow on Tuesday.

KELLOGG - The Kellogg Wildcats went on an 11-2 spurt to close out an Intermountain League game, beating visiting Timberlake.
The Tigers cut a 22-13 halftime lead down to size, trailing 31-28 late in the third quarter.
"They made a good run," Kellogg coach Eli Bourgard said. "Our bench did a good job of staying positive when they made their run after they got some turnovers. We came together and we made some adjustments, did a much better job breaking their press."
Makenna Stewart led the Wildcats (7-3, 2-0 IML) with 10 points.
Allison Kirby of Timberlake (7-7, 1-2) scored 13 points, and Jessica Norlander added 10.
Timberlake hosts Newport in a nonleague game on Tuesday.
Kellogg is scheduled to host St. Maries on Monday in a makeup game.

ST. MARIES - Haylee Waddell led a balanced attack with 11 points and the Lumberjacks held the Maniacs to two baskets in Central Idaho League play.
Kelsey Auer had nine points and nine rebounds, Catherine Flach nine points and seven boards, and Chelsea Thaut eight points and five steals for St. Maries (4-5, 2-1 CIL). Alexis Cordell had five of the Lumberjacks' 24 steals.
"Our defense was pretty sound today; they didn't get a lot of shots up," St. Maries coach Jay Sines said.
Orofino (0-2 CIL) went 2 for 16 from the field, 7 of 12 from the free-throw line.
St. Maries, which won 40-31 at the Coeur d'Alene junior varsity on Friday, is scheduled to travel to Kellogg on Monday for a makeup game.

CLARK FORK - Katey Mae McInturff scored a game-high 18 points for the Warriors in a North Star League win against the Wampus Cats.
Kaylee Carman scored 10 points for Kootenai (3-5, 1-2 NSL), which led from start to finish to earn their first league win.
"She's a very good player," said Clark Fork coach Mark Stevens of McInturff. "We just didn't play well. Probably our worst game of the season."
Annie Wurm scored 10 points, Lyndsie Kiebert added six and Alecia Heigis had four rebounds for Clark Fork (0-9, 0-3), which travels to Selkirk on Tuesday.
Clark Fork is at Selkirk on Tuesday.
Kootenai travels to Mullan on Thursday.
