A Kalispell man has denied allegations that he assaulted another man with a steel pipe.

Shawn Magos, 38, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Flathead District Court to a felony charge of assault with a weapon for an alleged incident Aug. 15, 2013.

A court document alleges that a man was dropping off Magos’ wife at her Wind River Drive home when Magos pulled up and jumped out of his car, yelling and armed with a steel pipe. The man got out of his truck, and then Magos allegedly began hitting him in the head and back with the pipe while yelling for him to die.

Magos then allegedly left, yelling that he would shoot the man next time.

Responding officers said the man was bloody and had several cuts to his head and back.

Magos was charged in November 2013; he was arrested the following month and incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $40,000. He later was released on his own recognizance.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in the Montana State Prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

His next hearing is Jan. 15.
