Runnin' Vikes start league with win
CONNOR VANDERWEYST | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 10 months AGO
MOSES LAKE - In what figures to be a tightly contested Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East region, Big Bend Community College (BBCC) started strong with a 93-87 win over Yakima Valley.
The Runnin' Vikes maintained their hold on first place in the East at 1-0 and hold a 12-3 record overall. The team is currently riding a three-game win streak after finishing third in the Big Bend Holiday Classic with two straight wins and Wednesday's win over the Yaks.
Sophomore guard Brendan Westendorf led Big Bend with a game-high 26 points whike grabbing seven rebounds and dishing five assists. Fellow sophomore guard Victor Aguero added 24 points and freshman forward Sean McDonnell contributed 20 points.
Yakima Valley hung tough with the Vikes for the majority of the game scoring 30 points off 19 Big Bend turnovers. The Yaks also were able to outscore BBCC 25-15 from the charity stripe.
However, the Big Bend defense frustrated the Yaks into only shooting 41.2 percent from the field.
