The 18th annual Wings Cancer Support radiothon is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Bee Broadcasting radio stations will broadcast the event from the Sportsman & Ski Haus in Kalispell.

The goal it to raise $60,000.

“Our needs keep increasing each year,” Wings co-founder and board member Ray Washtak said. “We’re asking people to open their hearts and wallets to help their neighbors.”

Wings is a local nonprofit organization that helps with expenses such as transportation, housing and meals needed while cancer patients are receiving treatment.

In 2013 Wings awarded 138 grants for a total of $122,651. The youngest cancer patient was 3 years old; the oldest was 100, according to Wings President Jennifer Schaffner.

Since 1997 Wings has awarded 2,518 grants totaling $1.7 million. All of the money raised is used to help cancer patients.

Donations may be dropped off at Sportsman & Ski Haus during the radiothon or pledges may be called in to 257-WING (9464). Contributions also may be mailed to Wings Regional Cancer Support, P.O. Box 7852, Kalispell, MT 59904.

Cancer patients needing financial assistance may call 257-9464 or pick up brochures during the radiothon.
