The Columbia Falls wrestling team went 2-0 in duals on the road last week. The MatCats beat Libby 81-3 on Jan. 9 and Frenchtown 45-33 on Jan. 11.

Against Frenchtown, Shonn Roberts (132), Colton Gove (138), Cody Walters (160) and Ike Schweikert (182) all won by pins.

But the meet was a little closer than the score would suggest. Frenchtown gave up 18 points by forfeit, and Columbia Falls gave up six points by forfeit at 120. Without the forfeits, the two teams would have tied. Some high schools just don’t have the numbers to fill all weight classes.

Against Libby, it was all MatCats as the Loggers gave up six forfeits and seven pins. Mason Fetters (113), Kaleb Gravelin (120), Roberts, Gove, Chase Ramberg (145), Zayne Brunz (152) and Mikey Denison (220) all won by pin.

Roberts is undefeated for the season, and Columbia Falls has moved up in the state Class A rankings in the past week from fourth to third.

The MatCats travel to Polson on Thursday and then to the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula on Friday and Saturday.

The Classic is considered a prelude to the state tournament as it pits wrestlers from across western Montana, Idaho and eastern Washington without regard to school class. A title at the classic is almost as coveted as a state title.
