PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Lake City blitzes past Lewiston in 5A IEL game

LEWISTON - A 31-12 blitz in the second half helped the visiting Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lewiston Bengals 59-32 in a 5A Inland Empire League game on Tuesday night at Booth Hall.
The Timberwolves blew the game open by embarking on a 20-3 run in the fourth quarter.
"We definitely blew the game open in the second half," Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. "We started moving the ball in the second half. That led to a lot of good looks and easy opportunities. Tucker Louie-McGee and Quinn Mitchell were both amazing off the bench."
Louie-McGee scored a season-high 12 points and had five assists for Lake City (8-4, 1-1 5A IEL). Quinn Mitchell added 10 points and six rebounds.
Kyle Guice had 13 points and eight rebounds and Chuckie Adams grabbed six rebounds for Lake City.
Lake City plays Friday at Coeur d'Alene for the Fight for the Fish spirit game.
Jayden Kauffman scored 12 points for Lewiston (3-7, 0-1).

MOSCOW - Jack Akey scored 11 of his 19 points in the second quarter, leading the Bears past the Hawks in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both schools at Bear Den.
"They kind of clamped down on us defensively in the second quarter and got some transition baskets," Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. "The kids fought hard and didn't give up on it."
Tyrel Derrick had 20 points and six assists, Derek Bayley 16 points and Jacob Plunkett eight rebounds for Lakeland (6-5), which travels to Lewiston on Saturday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Bryce Johnson hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds remaining, lifting the Tigers past the Grizzlies in a nonleague game.
Keegan Scott had 29 points, nine rebounds and six assists, Mason Cramer nine points and seven rebounds and Austin Allen 18 points, four assists and three steals for Timberlake (4-8), which travels to Priest River on Saturday in the Battle for the Buck spirit game.
Jeron Konkright scored 39 points for Newport.
"It was a great game," Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. "They're a really good team. That Konkright, he's impressive and a good all-around player. It was a good battle between two good teams. I was really impressed with how Keegan played. He guards their best player and is still our best on the floor. It was just a battle the entire way."
