COEUR d'ALENE - A large swastika-like symbol was spray-painted onto the wall of the Law Shop in Coeur d'Alene sometime Monday night.

Cecil Kelly, who has owned and operated the Law Shop since 1983, told The Press Tuesday that he initially walked by the graffiti on his way to get candy from Lakers, and didn't notice it. An employee at the bar told Kelly she saw the swastika on his building.

"It doesn't bother me," Kelly said.

In fact, the Coeur d'Alene native said with his background as a human rights advocate, he is surprised something similar hasn't already happened.

"It's just the way the world is," Kelly said. "There are dogs who piss on trees and there's young bucks who like to put swastikas on buildings."

The swastika painted on the Law Shop building is backward.

"If it was an Aryan, it was a pretty dumb Aryan," Kelly said, adding that he believes the culprit is either a kid or someone who has gang affiliations.

Kelly reported the incident to the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and said he plans to purchase a can of white spray paint to cover up the graffiti.

"It's no biggie," Kelly said. "Part of being an adult is dealing with things like this. You just clean it up and get moving on. The building needed some paint anyways."
