MOSES LAKE - People who are thinking of starting classes at Big Bend Community College during spring quarter are being invited to workshops detailing the necessary steps for enrollment.

The first will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday in room 1802 at the BBCC library in the ATEC building. Two more are scheduled, on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, also at noon in room 1802, college spokesperson Doug Sly said.

Spring quarter begins March 31.

Topics covered in the workshops include the admissions process, placement testing, available courses of study, applications, new student orientation, financial aid and other college funding opportunities.

"Some students are not prepared for, or are unaware of, the process to get started. The 'getting started' workshops help potential students understand the process and prepare them to enroll spring quarter," Rita Ramirez said. Ramirez is the college's coordinator of student recruitment and outreach.

College students who want to apply for financial aid must fill out an application form for the federal program, called the FAFSA application. Ramirez suggested that prospective students attempt to fill out the application, which is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students must have the school code for the application; BBCC's code is 003770.

The FAFSA application requires additional information, including tax returns, either from the applicants or their parents, depending on the applicant's age.

People who want more information can contact Ramirez at BBCC, 509-793-2072.
