A Kalispell transient accused of trying to break into Frontier Guns and Ammo has pleaded not guilty to felony attempted burglary.
Anton Golovko, 24, entered the plea Monday in Flathead District Court.
Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2237 U.S. 2 East business early on Dec. 27, 2013, after a burglary alarm was triggered at the back door. A court document states the deputies found the door had been “damaged extensively” from someone trying to get in.
Deputies followed boot tracks going away from the door and one deputy heard someone running through the snow.
Deputies found the runner, identified as Golovko. His boots allegedly matched the prints at the business.
In May 2007, Golovko was given a six-year deferred sentence for a felony burglary conviction that included the dismissal of felony theft and criminal mischief charges, dismissal of an entire case also alleging felony burglary, theft and criminal mischief, and a sealed juvenile case.
Golovko also was charged in a second juvenile case, but that case, too, was sealed.
Charged alongside Golovko in all three of his 2007 cases was James Kubai, who was given a three-year deferred sentence.
Kubai and Golovko, who were 17 at the time, were accused of a Jan. 22, 2007, vandalism attack at Flathead High School that caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Both were required to enter into the Treasure State Correctional Training Center program, which instructs participants in victimology, criminal thinking errors and anger management and includes substance abuse treatment and academic schooling.
If convicted of the new charge, Golovko faces up to 20 years in the Montana State Prison and a fine of up to $50,000. He is currently incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center, where his bond is set at $25,000.
The next hearing in his case is set for April 9.
