Are you ready for some football, Cd'A Symphony-style?

Haven't had quite enough football this winter? Or just looking for a way to be a part of the football scene without having to actually watch a game? Well, the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Family Fun Concert tonight and Saturday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center is the place for you.
Think of it as a concert for sports fans. There will be sportscasters, teams, cheerleaders and a penalty box.
"People who don't like classical music will have fun," said Jill Cathey, principal oboist for the symphony. "There will definitely be some antics."
The first half of the concert features PDQ Bach's treatment of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony (that's the football part). The second half is still sports-related and geared toward families, with music from the Olympics as well as television sports show themes - even compositions by Chuck Mangione and John Williams (of Star Wars and E.T. fame).
This is also one of the only times the Coeur d'Alene Youth Orchestra will be performing with the symphony. "It's always a draw when the community youth is involved," Cathey said. "It's a really neat opportunity to see the talent that our kids have."
Thanks to a generous grant from Kootenai Electric, children up to age 12 can receive a free ticket with a paid adult ticket. (Free tickets will NOT be available at the door.)
Performances are 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday.
