Basketball Roundup: Eureka boys, girls sweep Troy

TROY — Eureka outscored Troy 24-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 60-45 District 7B boys basketball victory Friday night.

Eureka held a 25-15 edge at the half, but Troy tallied 19 points in the third quarter to pull within two, trailing 36-34.

Eureka’s Dalton Smith led all scorers with 16 points. Colton Henrie added 14.

Gage Tallmadge had 19 and Gabe Hickman 14 for Troy.

THOMPSON FALLS — Libby held the upper hand early, but Thompson falls roared back to claim the nonconference victory.

Thompson Falls (4-6), trailing 15-7 after the first quarter, tallied 24 points in the next eight minutes to take a 31-26 lead at the half.

Trais Hoisington tossed in 23 points for Thompson Falls. Collin Johnson netted 18 points for Libby (1-6).

GREAT FALLS — Foothills Christian started fast, taking a 12-point lead at halftime to upset Stillwater Christian in a Montana Christian Athletic Association game.

Claus Henning had 17 points and Owen Madsen 10 as the Falcons outscored Stillwater 15-8 in the first quarter and led 37-20 entering the fourth quarter before coasting to the win.

Isaac Neumann had 15 points and Jaron Naumann had 13 for the Cougars.

PLAINS — Plains jumped out to a 16-7 advantage and never looked back in sticking a nonconference loss on Whitefish.

Hailey Phillips led the victors with 19 points.

Haley Nicholson scored five points for Whitefish (1-9).

GREAT FALLS — Stillwater Christian rallied from a slow start to dump Foothills Christian School in MCAA play.

Stillwater, down 6-4 after the opening quarter, outscored Foothills 38-24 the remainder of the play.

Janelle Falk led the Cougars with 13 points. Sarah Paolini tallied 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Kathryn Jentz topped SCS in steals (six) and shared the team lead with Serena Koch in assists (three each).

“We really picked up the intensity after the half and made a nice run in the third quarter,” SCS coach Denise Topp said.

“Kathryn Jentz and Annalise Pierson played some solid defense for us.”

TROY — Eureka held Troy scoreless in the second quarter and rolled from there to a District 7B victory.

Eureka led 20-7 at intermission.

The second half was played on even terms.

Amanda Peterson scored 11 points to pace Eureka.

Caitlin Johnston tallied 12 for Troy.
