Lavon Bradley (L.B.) Ellis passed away January 3, 2014, at Creekside Inn in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he had been receiving care for Alzheimer's disease.
L.B. was the son of Bradley and Sybil Ellis, born in their farm house in Beaver, Oklahoma, near Clear Creek on November 20, 1933. Clear Creek was a dear memory to L.B., where he loved to fish, hunt, explore and ride his horse, Babe. L.B. went to grade school at Elmwood country school and completed high school in Beaver, Oklahoma. He graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, where he majored in Biology. When not in school during the summer, L.B. wheat farmed on the family farm.
L.B. married his college sweetheart, Celia Ruth Taylor, on May 25, 1957. He earned his Masters of Science in Biology at Oklahoma State University, and also worked towards a Doctoral degree. L.B. began his 20 year teaching career in Woodward, Oklahoma, where he taught biology and science in the junior high and high school. Moving to Alamo, Texas, he taught biology and science in the Pharr, San Juan, and Alamo school districts. L.B. then taught biology in the junior college in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his teaching career as a Professor of Biology at Odessa Junior College in Odessa, Texas.
L.B.'s favorite activities were camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and sightseeing at national parks. L.B also enjoyed music and a good game of baseball. L.B. and Celia moved to Priest River, Idaho, in August of 1996 where they enjoyed building and living in their log cabin on their scenic property.
L.B. is survived by his wife, Celia Ruth Ellis, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; daughter, Celina Lynn Brower, and her husband Dan Alan Brower, of Priest River, Idaho; with several of their children/step children of St. Louis, Missouri; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Priest River, Idaho; and Covington, Washington; son, Larry Dean Ellis and his wife Melanie Ann Ellis, their son Colter Eli and Lily Elizabeth of Cody, Wyoming; cousin Peggy Morrison and her husband Jack Morrison of Beaver, Oklahoma; cousin Kaye Chaffin and her husband Don Chaffin of Tomball, Texas; cousin Ramona Jean Kile and her husband Gene Kile of Pratt, Kansas; as well as many friends he met along the way.
L.B. requested a simple ceremony with family; no funeral, flowers or donations. He will be greatly missed. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
