Sandpoint edges Moscow

MOSCOW - Hailey Olin posted nine points, seven boards and three assists to lead the Sandpoint Bulldogs to a 35-30 win over Moscow Bears in an 4A Inland Empire League game in a defensive slugfest Saturday night at Bear Den.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 2-0 4A IEL), winners of five straight, held the Bears scoreless in the first quarter and have now given up just 74 points in the past three games.

Maryah Delgado hit a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter among her eight points, and Nikole Alamillo added eight points and five rebounds, as the Bulldogs overcame a tough 9-for-22 night at the free throw line. After scoring just 13 points in the first half, the Bulldogs finally found some offense in a 14 point fourth quarter to put the game away.

"We used defensive intensity to stay close until we were able to refocus and finish the task," Sandpoint coach Bill Bender said.

The Bears (1-15, 1-1) shot just 29 percent from the field against the stingy Bulldogs, who played much of the first half in foul trouble. Madi Schoening added four steals for the Bulldogs, who host 5A No. 1 -anked Lewiston on Monday in nonleague action at 3 p.m.

LEWISTON - The host Bengals made 12 3-pointers in the nonleague game at Booth Hall.

Kaidan Kelsey scored six points and had five rebounds for the Hawks (3-13). Dani Linehan and Kelly Ramus each grabbed five rebounds.

"They shot the ball incredibly well," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said of Lewiston. "They didn't make many mistakes and their defense was solid."

Lyndzee Wilson scored 16 points for Lewiston (14-1). Cali Moscrip added 15 points.

Lakeland travels Thursday to play in a 4A Inland Empire League game at Sandpoint.

PRIEST RIVER - Keelie Lawler knocked down a corner 3 with under 10 seconds left to play to help lift the visiting Tigers to an Intermountain League against the Spartans in the Battle for the Buck spirit game.

Lawler, a junior, scored 11 points including the dagger from distance for Timberlake (9-7, 2-1 IML)

"They (Priest River) really controlled the game but we hung around and made a couple shots when it counted," Tigers coach Matt Miller said.

Katlyn Summers recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Priest River (10-6, 4-1), which struggled at the free throw and went just 7-for-18 from the line.

Abbigale Seubert added four points for the Tigers, who host St. Maries on Jan. 28.

Priest River travels to Freeman on Tuesday.

Timberlake hosts St. Maries on Tuesday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene Charter post Sarah Haman dominated inside the paint, helping Coeur d'Alene Charter rout Orofino in Central Idaho League action at Holy Family Catholic School.

Haman scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Fellow post Jackie Jensen finished with 10 assists.

The Panthers (6-7, 1-2 CIL) put the game away early, jumping out to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter on their way to taking a 20-9 halftime lead.

Coeur d'Alene Charter plays Tuesday at Kellogg.

Orofino is 0-3 in league.

ST. MARIES - The Lumberjacks couldn't sustain their halftime lead, as St. Maries went cold in the second half and dropped a Central Idaho League game to Grangeville.

Senior Chelsea Thaut led St. Maries with 10 points, and Kelsey Auer finished with seven points and three blocks, sister Kirsten Auer added five points and five steals.

The Lumberjacks (4-6, 2-2 CIL) travel to Kellogg for a makeup game on Wednesday.

PLUMMER - Freshman Lillian Rhea scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Knights eased away from the visiting Warriors in North Star League play.

Cheyenne Shamburg added eight points and 10 rebounds for Lakeside (6-9, 4-2 NSL).

Pine praised the defensive play of Duncan, who finished with nine points, as did Cailyn Dohrman and Avery Brown-Sonder.

Katey Mae McInturff scored 16 points for Kootenai (4-6, 2-3), which plays at the Kellogg junior varsity on Thursday.

Lakeland plays host to Lapwai on Monday.
