The snows may be falling outside, but Carla Nicosia is doing well in track.
The Columbia Falls athlete won the triple jump Jan. 18 at the Washington State University Open indoor track meet in Pullman, Wash.
Nicosia posted a winning jump of 34 feet, 8.75 inches on her last jump to nab the title. Nicosia competed against both high school and college athletes with everyone in one group.
Competitors included those from Washington State University, University of Idaho, Lewis and Clark University, Linfield University, Whitworth University, Central Washington University, Spokane Community College, Moscow Track Club, Mountain West Track Club, Sewell Institute of Sport, Vandal Track Club, Central Oregon Track Club, and 47 unattached athletes.
With no indoor track facilities available here to train on, this was the first time Nicosia was able to put together a complete jump since last spring.
She also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, taking second in her heat with a time of 10.27, and in the long jump, where she finished in the middle of the pack.
Nicosia plans on competing in several indoor track meets this winter.
