James Dunphy, 86

James Richard Dunphy passed away peacefully at his home in Rathdrum, Idaho, on January 15, 2014.

James was born December 13, 1927, in Trenton, New Jersey. He married his loving wife, Amelia Ann, on October 20, 1951. He served in the Navy during the Korean War training as a fighter pilot, but then was transferred to Radar Surveillance. He worked as a Technical Writer for General Dynamics Corporation (Convair) in San Diego, California; Clare Pendar in Post Falls, Idaho; Instrumentation Laboratories, American Sign & Indicator and Itron in Spokane, Washington; then as a Senior Technical Editor for The Boeing Company and wrote procedures for the nuclear clean-up in Hanford, Washington. He also had his own side businesses: “Moonlighters,” Technical Writing and Editing, and sold Real Estate for a period of time. He was a member of the Society For Technical Communication.

James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amelia Ann; sons, Thaddeus (Irene) of Rathdrum, Idaho; Edward of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Michael (Heidi) of Monroe, Oregon; Christopher (Nicole) of Everett, Washington; and Francis (Belle) of Rathdrum, Idaho; and daughter, Sister Mary Tarcisius of Lafayette, Louisiana. Also, his sisters Eileen Small, Mary Ann Stokes, Kathy Marasco, Bernadette Alfrets and Joan O’Connor, and brother Patrick Dunphy. He has 16 grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father, James, and mother, Bernadetta; his older brother Hubert Edward, and his younger brother Richard (Uncle Dick).

James loved his Catholic faith; holding to the traditional practices and not the modern changes introduced at Vatican Two. He had a beautiful rock grotto build on his property in Rathdrum to honor Our Lady of Lourdes, and would spend hours there watching the birds frolic in the waterfall and praying the Rosary.

He enjoyed classical music, raising rabbits, sailing, reading, gun collecting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A Traditional Catholic Requiem Funeral Mass was held Friday, January 17, at Mary Immaculate Queen Church in Rathdrum, Idaho, and he was laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery later in the day. Please visit Jame’s online tribute at http://memorial.yourtribute.com/James-Richard-Dunphy
