Leslie “Les” Elsworth Hammond, Jr., 75, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, passed away January 19, 2014, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Les was born July 18, 1938, in Superior, Montana, to Leslie and Louvain (Casey) Hammond Sr. Les grew up in Superior, Montana, and as a young man joined the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, Les moved back to Montana where he met Maggie Cunningham, and they were later married in 1967 in Butte, Montana. They lived in Butte for six years before moving to Lolo, Montana. After they divorced, Les moved to Washington before finally settling in North Idaho.
Les was an active member of the Post Falls Lions Club. He loved to travel, fish, hunt, tell jokes, and grow vegetable and flower gardens.
Les is survived by his significant other, Elaine Church, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; two sons: Shawn Hammond of Missoula, Montana, and Shane Hammond of Palmer, Alaska; one daughter, Marcynda Hammond of Missoula, Montana; two brothers: Duane, and his wife Carolyn Hammond, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, and Delvin Hammond of Kellogg, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Les was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife, and his three sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Post Falls Lions Club, 404 E. 2nd St., Post Falls, Idaho, 83854.
