Michael Denning Borg, 71, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away January 18, 2014, at Hospice House of North Idaho in the presence of loved ones.

He was born in Seattle, Washington, on November 25, 1942, to Lorena and Woodrow Borg. He grew up in the Seattle area where he had fond memories of learning to fish the local lakes and rivers with his great aunt Elma, and of the time spent at the farm with his four younger siblings. He graduated from Glacier High School in Seattle in 1962. That same year he married Sharon McMillan and together they had two sons, Steven and Jeffrey. They divorced shortly after their second son was born.

Michael met his current wife of 37 years, Linda Konen, at the Blue Bird Café in Arlington, WA, in 1974. In 1980 they moved to Rathdrum where they built a life and raised their three youngest children.

As a young man he enjoyed his small farm and dabbled in the cowboy and rodeo life. In his twenties, he worked as a logger and then as a bridge inspector for Snohomish County, WA. After he and Linda moved to north Idaho, he began working as an animal control officer for the city of Coeur d’Alene before moving on to work in security at the Kootenai County Courthouse. He semi-retired in 2004 but continued working two days a week at a job he enjoyed until his health declined.

Michael enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He looked forward to annual camping trips to Priest Lake with his wife, children and brother’s family. Some of his favorite times were taking his friends or family out on his boat – often waking his children during the wee hours of the morning to be the first out on the water! In his later years he enjoyed trips over to the Washington coast to visit family and time spent just sitting on a dock next to his grandson, Nathan, with a couple fishing poles. He loved fishing so much that in addition to his day job he had a small rod and reel repair business, fixing fishing equipment for others in his free time so they could get back to the sport he loved. Michael was also a dedicated fan to his children’s sports teams – umpiring at his son’s little league games and coaching many of his two daughters’ softball teams through the years. The kids he coached over the years meant a lot to him and vice versa.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons Steve Borg, Jeff (Sherry) Borg, and Jeff (Rita) Haug; daughters Jennifer (Eric) Anderson, and Kelly Borg; brothers Dave (Leslie) Borg, and Terry (Venessa) Borg; sisters Trisha Gilleland and Christy (Ron) Blunk; as well as his grandsons Nathan, Dylan, Justin and Dolan; and granddaughters Carly, Camryn, Cady, and Kennadi; and lots of extended family.

A memorial service to honor Michael’s life will be held at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 12 p.m.
