Larry Barge, 70
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 10 years, 12 months AGO
Larry Dan Barge, 70, lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at his home on Friday Jan. 24, 2014.
Larry was born in Seattle on June 25, 1943 to Dan and Marie Barge. His family moved to Plentywood, Mont. in his early years, and moved to the Flathead Valley when he was in second grade. He was married three times and had four children; Scott Barge, Wendy Glass, Kameron Barge, and Tara Stout. Larry graduated from Flathead High School. He served in the National Guard, worked for Phillips 66, and opened Barge's Bodyshop in 1973.
He helped organize and start the Flathead Snowmobile Association, was elected as their first vice-president, and was very active in the club for many years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and faithfully watched every race. During his 40 years in Business, it was always "beer 30" at his shop. His buddies were like family to him. He was the type of guy that could never say no and would give anyone the shirt off his back.
He will be remembered for his generosity, giving personality and strong spirit. He will also be remembered for his many "Larryisms": “Yep Yep, Merry Christmas, with a bar of soap and a box of Tide, Plan B,” and whatever else.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Marie Barge. He is survived by his son Scott and Wife Shawnee; daughter Wendy Glass and husband Curt and grandchildren Kyle', Skyler, Daylin, and Michael; son Kameron and fiancee' Emily and grandchild Marley; daughter Tara Stout and husband Tom and grandchild Landin; He is also survived by sisters Carrie Taylor and husband Dick; Ann Martinson and husband Dennis; Shirley Anderson, and Lori Goble and husband Craig; and the stray cat that adopted Larry, His Majesty.
There will be a gathering and potluck at the Barges on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory caring for the family.
