ST. REGIS – The Lady Tigers won two close victories last week against the Charlo Lady Vikings and the Lincoln Lady Lynx.

When the St. Regis girls went up against Charlo, they took a home victory of 48 to 34. The game was a close battle where both teams got similar points in each quarter.

Sophomore Pilar Cantrell-Field took the first points of the game and led the team with 19 points. The Tigers took the lead early and kept Charlo back with a strong defense.

Cantrell-Field and freshman Madison Hill made a great combination with a number of amazing plays. From a cluster of players at the Charlo end, Cantrell-Field threw the ball into the open across the court. Hill charged in to catch the ball and brought it in for a score. Her race against a Charlo player led to a penalty shot, which brought one point to St. Regis.

Charlo was able to claim a final point at the buzzer but it was not enough to tie the quarter. The end score saw St. Regis ahead with a score of 13 to 6.

The second quarter saw a fierce battle between the two sides. The match opened with the Vikings gaining on St. Regis. They used great passing tactics and followed the coach’s instructions to “keep the ball moving” well. The ball was passed back and forth between Charlo players as they looked for an opening in the Tiger’s defense.

Cantrell-Field brought the Tigers back to the lead with a number of successful baskets. Hill ended the quarter with a three point shot at the buzzer for a half time score of 21-16.

As the second half opened, the Tigers began to increase their lead. There was one great play where senior Arianna Jones knocked the ball back from going out of bounds. Hill retrieved it and took it to the Tiger’s end of the court.

Cantrell-Field continued to bring in more points as the main scorer of the period. Charlo was able to catch up and ended the third quarter with a score of 30 to 29.

The last quarter saw an increasing number of fouls to both teams. The Tigers brought in the most points of the game as Jones, Hill and Cantrell-Field worked the defense to the best advantage. The game’s final score was 48 to 34.

Hill took the second highest score for the team with 14 points. Jones followed close behind her with 12 points.

When the Lady Tigers went against Lincoln on Saturday, January 25, they took victory in a much closer game. The Lady Lynx had a strong first half where they were able to come away with a score of 13 to 19.

The second quarter opened with St. Regis gaining a huge advantage. A stronger offense led the girls to recover the lead against Lincoln’s scores. The final score saw the Lady Tigers bring a better defense and keep their opponents down.

Hill continued to perform well in the Lincoln game. She tied as the top scorer with junior Gabby Moeller with 15 points. Cantrell-Field took nine points as the second top scorer.

The girls played a home game against Noxon on Tuesday. Information on the outcome of the game was not available at the time of press. They will also play at home against Arlee on Friday, January 31.
