ROYAL CITY - Some people are getting very serious about improving the quality of basketball in the Royal school system.

Fifty-eight K-12 students participated in the first ever Elite Hoops Basketball Camp to come to Royal City on June 16-20.

The camp is put on by Elite Hoops out of East Wenatchee. The director, known only as JD, played for the UW and pro ball. He had the honor of defending against Michael Jordan.

JD coached the entire camp by himself. He worked with 38 K-5 students in the mornings and 22 6th-12th students in the afternoons.

"The camp was designed to help Royal be a stronger Basketball program," publicist Jacquie Dorsing said. "Pete Christensen and Maria Lefler, along with Farrah Brown, were huge support and were there every day of camp to learn drills and how to better a basketball program."

Hannah Wilhelm was selected morning session camper of the week, chosen for her leadership and hard work. She won a private lesson with camp coach JD.

Eighth grader Gage Christensen was the camper of the week for the afternoon session. The participants had three days of training, and private lessons were also available to the players.

Farrah Brown had been working to bring this camp to Royal for some time now. She needed to get at least 40 campers in order to have the camp take place in Royal.

"Her efforts paid off, 58 kids signed up and had a great three days of basketball." Dorsing said.

For more information you can visit Royal Hoops on FB.

"We would like to thank DAC Consulting, Les Schwab, CHS and Blue Sky for helping out many kids through generous donations," Dorsing said.
