ROYAL CITY - The Pickles, Pies, & Preserves competition will be Royal City's take on a county fair type of event at SummerFest Royal Roundup this year.
"We were brainstorming what events we could do, and this came out of my mouth," SummerFest chair Cara Hoyt said.
SummerFest, the three-day old fashioned community festival, will be celebrated on July 11-13 in Lions Park.
Pickles, Pies & Preserves is three contests. Hoyt plans to enter her pickles and challenges others to enter as well. Entries will be judged on appearance, taste and texture.
There will be blue, red and white ribbons and cash prizes for the judges' choices in each category. Paula Perryman and Jolinda Davis, both teachers in the Royal District, are the organizers for this event.
According to Perryman, you must bring your entry to the New Life Fellowship Church between 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 for judging. The entries will be displayed through Saturday at 5 p.m. when owners will be able to retrieve their culinary delights.
