At Monday’s Libby School Board meeting, recently-appointed Superintendent Craig Barringer presented a 90-day plan outlining his aim to understand, communicate with and introduce himself to the community.

Also, the school board was informed that the nutrition fund for the Libby school district has dipped into the red less this year with $23,000 than in the previous year, $68,000, which is good news to the district’s ears. Raising the cost of the school nutrition program - $0.03 for breakfast and $0.06 for lunch - was briefly discussed and will be made  an action item for the board in the future.

School board members also discussed more details about the school district’s nutrition fund, a kitchen remodeling project for the  district and pupil-instruction-related days.

The July 7 school board meeting was Barringer’s first since assuming the top position in the Libby School District, and he came prepared. He passed out a 90-day plan, broken into 30-, 60- and 90-day lists.

For the first 30 days, among many list items, Barringer  plans to meet with each principal, review district goals,  learn district grant processes, review federal funding programs, work with the kitchen remodeling project and help with the structuring of the  2014-15 budget.

Over the next 60 days, Barringer plans to meet with building staff, meet with local community organizations including senior citizens and the Rotary Club, and establish a newsletter to parents.

Over the next 90 days, Barringer plans to meet with the class of 2015,  meet with district committees and set goals for the superintendent position.

Other objectives Barringer listed involved building maintenance, personnel and various administrative efforts to reach out to the Libby community.

The next school board meeting will be a regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on July 14.
