The Lakers A offense put on a show in the opener of the John R. Harp Tournament on Friday at Griffin Field, topping Northwest Premiere (Post Falls, Idaho) 12-3.

Kalispell took a few innings to get rolling, but the floodgates opened in the third. Leading 1-0 entering the frame, the Lakers scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth, to take a 10-0 lead. The Lakers stemmed a short rally by the Premiere, answering three runs over two innings with two of their own in the sixth inning to cap the scoring.

Logan DeCock had a solid outing on the mound, holding the Premiere to just five hits over six innings. Pat O’Connell led the Lakers at the plate, going 3 for 4 from the plate with a pair of doubles, a triple and three RBIs.

The Lakers play twice today, playing the Calgary Rockies on Archie Roe Field at noon and Vauxhall at 7:30 p.m. on Griffin Field.

Alex Killian was masterful on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two hits, a walk and striking out 10 batters.

The Mariners’ bats stayed hot in the nightcap, scoring five runs in each of the first two innings to take a 10-0 lead into the third inning. Mission Valley had 12 hits in the contest and scored a run in every inning.

Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament

Cubs 15, Loggers 8

LEWISTON, Idaho — Libby had just taken a lead on the host Lewis-Clark Cubs at the Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament on Friday when they fell apart in the fifth inning, falling for the second time in the tournament.

The Loggers hit two doubles in the top of the fifth, the last off the bat of Austin Marshall to score the second of two runs in the inning, giving Libby a 4-3 lead. They fell behind early in the contest after giving up three runs in the first inning, but slowly worked their way back.

But the bottom of the fifth wasn’t as successful, with the Cubs batting around the order and picking up eight hits in the inning and eight runs in the inning to run away with the game.

Libby scored four in the top of the sixth to try to rally but gave up four more in the bottom half of the frame.

Trace Tammero had three RBIs and Erik Lauer two RBIs for the Loggers.

Thursday Night

Rangers 7, Loggers 3

LEWISTON, Idaho — Libby fell behind in the first inning and couldn’t catch up, losing to Meridian (Idaho) in their opener at the Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament.

After safely putting their first three batters of the game on base, a sacrifice fly gave the Loggers an early 1-0 lead in the contest, though it didn’t last long. Meridian scored twice in the bottom of the inning to wrest the lead away.

That theme would keep up throughout. Libby scored in the top of the third but gave up four in the bottom of the inning to again fall behind. Each team would score one more run, the Loggers’ coming in the final inning.

Cameron Burkes and Will Reichel were each 2 for 4 from the plate for the Loggers.

The tournament continues through the weekend, with the championship on Sunday.
