The Kalispell City Council will hold a work session tonight on the capital protection program of the Buffalo Hills Golf Course.

The council and Kalispell Golf Association will discuss the possibility of having the golf association handle the responsibilities of the capital protection program in place of their annual lease payment to the city.

The capital protection program outlines the city’s and golf associations’ responsibilities and duties to preserve the property’s assets. Buffalo Hills Golf Course General Manager Steve Dunfee was approached with the option of the association taking responsibility for the program earlier this month. He wanted more time to discuss it with the association before agreeing to a memorandum of understanding with the city and has requested a 90-day extension for the lease payment, which was due June 30. The golf association has already paid the annual $22,000 lease and that money will be invested back into the capital protection program if they assume responsibility for the program.

Also on tonight’s agenda, the council will review a draft of a memorandum of understanding for the use and maintenance of Kidsports.

In 2012, the council authorized the purchase of a permanent easement for the property in north Kalispell. The new memorandum of understanding was a condition for the purchasing the easement.
