CoiNuts proceeding delayed

COEUR d'ALENE - This might sound familiar.
The scheduled arraignment for CoiNuts owner-operator Kevin E. Mitchell didn't proceed.
Mitchell, 48, had for months been scheduled to enter a plea during his arraignment hearing on Wednesday in 1st District Court in Kootenai County. He faces a felony charge of grand theft by false promise.
The arraignment also had been scheduled back in May, but it was continued to Wednesday.
First District Judge Fred Gibler has now moved the hearing to 2 p.m., Aug. 12.
Mitchell's public defender, Linda J. Payne, requested the delay.
"I still don't have the grand jury transcript," Payne complained to Gibler.
The transcript from the grand jury proceeding is 725 pages, Gibler said.
Payne requested the delay back in May, too, saying she needed time to review case materials.
A grand jury indictment against Mitchell says he allegedly schemed to defraud customers at his coin shop, which operated at 296 W. Sunset Ave., just off U.S. 95. The shop is no longer operating.
Mitchell and his stepdaughter, Sarah M. Mitchell, were indicted back in March.
