I had heard that the sockeye fishing was already good in the Brewster Pool, so I talked my wife Eileen into getting up at 3 a.m. to give it a try.

We were there on a Monday, so the traffic on the Pool wasn't too bad. I put out the same gear that worked for me at Wells a few days earlier and figured that would do the trick.

Not.

I wasted some good fishing time dragging this stuff around. I found that the fish in Brewster Pool were sensitive to leader length, and until I got my rigs shortened up to about ten inches, I wasn't getting hits.

I also found out that the sockeye wanted a hot pink color. I happened to have some R and K Sockeye rigs in the boat, and they worked great.

They are tied with two sickle hooks, too, which I think helped land fish.

I made sure the baits were fresh and dosed with scent again. Eileen did a great job netting the fish, and we were four for four.

Then the fish got frisky. I took a while to get a couple more and then the bite died. I can't wait to get back up there now that I have a better idea of what to do.

I had a great experience the other day. I had stopped by Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee and ran into someone that I knew from Lake Chelan.
