Empty canoe spotted on Flathead River

Several Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies and Evergreen Fire personnel were dispatched Sunday to investigate reports of a canoe with no one in it floating down the Flathead River. Sightings of the canoe ranged from the Presentine fishing access area to the Old Steel Bridge area. Because there were no missing-people reports related to a canoe, no search was launched.
A person called to advise that a bridge that provides access to some homes in the Truman Creek areas collapsed about a week ago and it is not being repaired right away.
A landlord who recently evicted a woman from a River Road property reported her for stealing a washer and dryer from the rental. The woman said she purchased the appliances before the landlord purchased the property and he could not refute that claim.
A worried father said his daughter had failed to return from a hike in the Jewel Basin Hiking Area. It turned out that she was employed by the Swan Lake Ranger District in Bigfork and she made it back to work just fine.
A boy got caught stealing a fishing lure from a store on U.S. 2 in Evergreen.
A person calling from Canyon Trail in the Bigfork reported being struck in the head by a son who was being belligerent and refusing to leave the residence. The son eventually left and officers were looking for him.
A man calling from Kinsella Road said somebody blew up his mailbox. He said a neighbor saw smoke “and the mailbox was gone.”
An intoxicated woman was seen screaming in front of a Mountain Drive home in Hungry Horse, where her ex-boyfriend lives. The woman was apparently upset that he was not at the home and he had her children at some other location. The woman was counseled.
After an argument over a piece of heavy equipment with shared ownership, a man called from Collier Lane to say his brother had threatened to shoot all the windows out of the reporting party’s house. The man did not want his brother to return.
There was a report of a pizza delivery driver entering an apartment on Montana 35 in Evergreen, only to find that the familiar customer appeared to be dead. Dispatchers called the customer, who responded and said he was only sleeping. He no longer wanted his pizza.
A woman asked for help getting her ex-boyfriend to leave a property on Lakeside Avenue because she felt threatened by him and he had been lingering in the driveway for more than an hour.
A woman said her wallet was stolen from her South Cedar Drive home.
After a man was seen stumbling his way to a pickup and driving away, the vehicle was located on South Main Street in Kalispell and the man was arrested for drunk driving.
Someone reported there was a Harley Davidson motorcycle that had been suspiciously abandoned on Glacier Pines Drive in West Glacier. It turned out the motorcycle had recently been stolen. The owner was contacted and he got it back.
Early Monday, at about 2:45 a.m., a bartender reported that after she got off work she found her vehicle had been ransacked in a parking lot on Montana 35 in Bigfork.
Kalispell Police got a report Sunday about someone dragging a Chihuahua behind a pickup truck on Second Street West, and the reporting party said the dog looked “banged up” but added the incident appeared to be unintentional.
A man attempted to shoplift from a store on Third Avenue East North, but an employee stopped him and prevented him from getting away with the merchandise.
Someone saw a man run up to a woman, shove her and start chasing her in the area of First Avenue West. The man was contacted by an officer, but it appeared to be only a verbal dispute.
At about 3 a.m. Monday, there was a report of an intoxicated woman leaving a residence on Tronstad Road and hitting a bush with her vehicle. She was later located and arrested for drunk driving.
Soon after, there was a report of a vehicle almost hitting another vehicle on Second Street West. The vehicle was located and a woman was arrested for drunk driving.
A man calling from Fourth Avenue West said someone stole a license plate off a trailer.
A vehicle was egged on First Avenue East North.
A West California Street resident said that a bag containing a blanket and an iPad was stolen off a front porch.
A woman calling Whitefish Police from U.S. 93 South on Sunday said that an ex-boyfriend has been stalking her and most recently has threatened to burn her house down. She was advised about privacy-in-communication and restraining-order laws.
A Fraser Avenue resident said that a glass panel on a neighbor’s patio was mysteriously shattered. The caller suspected the panel was shot out but the cause was not determined.
A man called from a mental health facility to say that a woman had broken into his Kalispell Avenue home to get access to a vehicle that belongs to him. The man said friends went over and confirmed the break-in. Since the woman was a girlfriend, it wasn’t clear if burglary charges would be pursued.
Columbia Falls Police got a report Sunday about a man wearing a skull mask, riding a big loud Harley, pulling into a parking lot on Fourth Avenue West and taking a gas can from the reporting party.
An iPod was stolen from a vehicle on Martha Road.
There was a report of vehicles being broken into on Clayton Lane.
There was a report of a vehicle being stolen from Ninth Street West.
On Monday, there was a pursuit of a man on a motorcycle from Columbia Falls to the Columbia Heights area, where an officer discontinued the chase. The motorcyclist had apparently hit and knocked over an elderly man in the area of Talbot Road.
