Volunteers at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene continue to operate a year-round food bank each Thursday at the church.

"It's really an ongoing effort," Mike Haas, executive director at Christ the King, said Tuesday.

Haas said the program has operated for more than two decades and serves an average of 2,000 clients each year. Anyone in the area in need of supplies is welcome.

Haas, who has been a church member since 1978, said the pantry has been very successful.

"There are times of the year when the demand is greater than at others," Haas said, "but we never lack supplies."

The pantry is operated by volunteers from the congregation, with supplies donated and funded by congregants, but Haas said the pantry would welcome donations from the wider community as well.

The church program also enjoys a relationship with Ferman Elementary School and Lakes Middle School, where the families of students who may need supplies are invited to visit the pantry.

Supplies include non-perishable items such as dry and canned food items, as well as boxed and frozen food.

The pantry operates on Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., at the west entrance of the building.
